Kuala Lumpur, 7 March 2014 – PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International or better known as Telin (a subsidiary of Telkom engaged in international business) and several Parties incorporated in the consortium of South East Asia - Middle East -Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5), on March 7, 2014 signed a work contract with the construction of the International Sea Cable System that connects Southeast Asia and Europe. The signing was done by Telin President Director Syarif Syarial Ahmad along with other consortium representatives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (7/3).
After more than 10 years since 2000 Indonesia has not been traversed and connected directly to the International Sea Cable System connecting Southeast Asia and Europe, now through the mega project of South East Asia - Middle East -Western Europe 5 (SEA-ME-WE 5) Submarine Cable System. Indonesia should be proud to have become one of the participating countries in signing the SEA-ME-WE 5 development contract.
Submarine Cable System SEA-ME-WE 5 is an underwater cable system that has a length of about 20,000 KM that stretches from Southeast Asia to Europe, France and Italy. In addition to these countries, this mega project will also connect 11 countries in its path.
SEA-ME-WE 5 Sea Cable will have a fork to Indonesia with landing stations in Dumai and Medan. By connecting Indonesia directly with SEA-ME-WE 5 Submarine Cable System, the speed of data and internet services from Indonesia to Europe will increase and become the best ever.
SEA-ME-WE 5 Sea Cable will be integrated with Telin's previously owned sea cable system, Asia America Gateway (AAG), South East Asia Japan Cable System (SJC), Batam Singapore Cable System (BSCS), Dumai Malaka Cable System DMSC) and other domestic cabling systems that will create a comprehensive network configuration that connects Asia, Europe, USA and Indonesia with unmatched quality.
“SEA-ME-WE 5 is built using 3 pairs of optical cable with a design capacity of 24 Tbps, meaning that the capacity of it can deliver 3 million HD streaming video simultaneously”, said Syarif.
The development of this submarine cable system is part of Telin's contribution in supporting the successful Masterplan of Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MPE3I) as well as Telin's seriousness in strengthening Telin's vision to be "The World's Hub for Telecommunication, Information, Media, Edutainment and Services (TIMES) "And is part of Telin's plan for expansion in the networking field of one of Telin's masterpieces, the Indonesia Global Network (IGlow).
