Tanjung Pakis, Karawang, 30 September 2024 – Telin continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability by planting another 10,000 mangrove trees, following the successful planting 5,000 mangrove trees at Tanjung Pakis Beach, Kabupaten Karawang, Java. This initiative, as part of Telin’s ongoing #TelinforCOMMUNITY movement, reflects the company’s dedication to addressing global environmental issues and preserving coastal ecosystems.
Since 2022, Telin has commited to planting 15,000 mangroves in Tanjung Pakis, projected to sequester up to 1,005,000 kg of CO2/20 years. In collaboration with CarbonEthics, this initiative delivers measurable benefits for coastal ecosystems while contributing to the socioeconomic development of local communities.
In addition to planting, Telin remains committed to maintaining these mangroves, addressing challenges such as erosion and drift. Through our partnership with Carbon Ethics, we have achieved a 97% success rate in mangrove sustainability and will apply the same approach to the upcoming 10,000 mangroves. This ongoing care reflects our deep commitment to long-term environmental stewardship.
The mangrove planting, which took place as part of the company’s broader environmental efforts, builds on previous initiatives like beach clean-ups and smaller mangrove planting events. This large-scale project highlights Telin’s long-term vision to restore and maintain coastal biodiversity while contributing to the fight against climate change. The ceremony attended by Telin’s Board of Directors, Senior Leaders and Teliners.
"This planting initiative impacts 19 direct beneficiaries (local farmers) and 65 indirect beneficiaries from the planting program. Mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastal areas from erosion and act as carbon sinks, making them essential in combating climate change. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. We aim not only to create a positive environmental impact but also to improve the livelihoods of communities through sustainable activities," Said Budi Satria Dharma Purba, Telin CEO.
This is part of recent initiative for Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) programs aimed at contributing to environmental sustainability, promoting the well-being of the communities in which the company operates, and expanding digital economies and social inclusion.
With the planting of these 15,000 mangroves, Telin reaffirms its commitment to creating a greener future and a more resilient coastal environment, to preserve the area around our Cable Landing Station and develop the community as part of contribution to our stakeholders.
