The Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) has evolved into one of the most prominent industry gatherings in the telecommunications sector, uniting global players to explore digital innovation, strategic partnerships, and business growth. BATIC 2024 continued this momentum by offering a platform for meaningful networking and collaborative conversations across the digital ecosystem. This year’s event also introduced improved environmental considerations, demonstrating how large-scale industry gatherings can integrate responsible operational practices without compromising scale or impact.
Over four days, BATIC 2024 welcomed over 1,300 participants from more than 450 multinational companies across 42 countries. As a key event hosted by Telin, BATIC facilitated forward-looking dialogues on digital infrastructure, subsea connectivity, cybersecurity, and future technologies. While the primary focus remained on enabling collaboration within the global digital economy, sustainability was also reflected in various operational areas, aligning with growing industry awareness of ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) principles.
BATIC Commitment for Innovation and Sustainability
In line with evolving expectations, BATIC 2024 implemented several sustainability-oriented enhancements within its operations. This included the use of biodegradable food packaging, reduced reliance on single-use plastics, and improved waste management practices. In collaboration with local partners, the event embedded aspects of ESG into its logistics—aiming to create an efficient, inclusive, and responsible event experience while still centering on digital collaboration and innovation.
A key component of BATIC 2024’s sustainability strategy was its structured approach to waste management, implementing the 4R framework: Replace, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Delegates were encouraged to use refillable water bottles and tote bags, while printed materials were kept to a minimum. BATIC 2024 partnered with Integrated Waste Processing Site in Pejeng, Bali and local waste banks to ensure proper waste segregation and recycling, leading to a 58.03% waste diversion rate that significantly surpassing Bali’s regional recycling average of 9%.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
Beyond the conference agenda, BATIC 2024 placed a strong emphasis on community engagement and stakeholder inclusiveness. Collaboration with waste management organizations provided opportunities for knowledge sharing and local empowerment. Vendors and organizers received training on responsible waste disposal, while delegates could gain with hands-on knowledge of responsible waste management practices. This holistic approach ensured that BATIC 2024 was not just a one-time event but a driving force for long-term sustainability initiatives in the telecommunications industry.
Sustainability outcomes from BATIC 2024 were measured using Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. A total of 1,813 kg of waste (consisting of 695 kg of organic waste, 357 kg of inorganic waste, and 761 kg of residual waste) was managed, with more than half successfully diverted from landfills through composting and recycling. Emission reduction efforts helped avoid 934 kgCO2e. These initiatives reflect a growing effort within the digital industry to align operational practices with long-term environmental goals.
Moving Forward with Purpose
In line with Indonesia’s national roadmap for circular economy (2025–2045), BATIC 2024 introduced structured waste processing, separating organic, inorganic, and residual waste. Compostable materials were repurposed to benefit local farming communities, and recyclable materials were sent to industry partners. These practices are intended to complement BATIC’s broader mission—supporting digital infrastructure and ecosystem collaboration across the Indo-Pacific.
BATIC 2025 will build on its core mission of connecting the global digital ecosystem while continuing to refine its event operations. As a platform hosted by Telin, BATIC remains focused on empowering global collaboration, strategic connectivity, and long-term value creation in the digital infrastructure space, with operational sustainability as one of many supporting pillars.
