Jakarta, 12 November 2020 – Spiking demand during the pandemic has led to increased bandwidth demand and accelerated digital adoption with 61% of new traffic caused by video conferencing and 20% by video streaming. That is why we need to capture the high demand of online activity which has been increased dramatically.
Telin, in collaboration with the Carrier Community, held a webinar themed “The Future of Trans-Pacific Connectivity”, which is the third of the “Telin Insights” webinars. Held on Thursday, 12 November 2020, the webinar featured EVP Carrier Enterprise Telin, Azmal Yahya; Cloud Customer Solution Engineer at Google, Chris Hampartsoumian; Head of Global Wholesale at Telstra; Paul Abfalter, Director Customer Experience - Service Providers APJC at Cisco; Soman Venugopal, Team Lead; and Submarine Cable Planning at China Mobile International Ltd, MT Suen as speakers. VSC CEO Erik Van Stokkom served as the moderator.
Azmal explained that one of the key challenges is network resiliency, given the capacity shortages due to the global market situation especially in Trans-Pacific. He added, “Organizations can boost connectivity with solutions such as submarine cable, data center, and cloud, as well as maximizing eyeballs in Indonesia through Telkom Group.”
In the discussion session, Chris commented that global businesses are seeing enormous digital growth trends during the pandemic, such as rising video consumption. These trends can lead to many more future opportunities.
Mt Suen added that Asia has the highest traffic potential due to its large population and growing technology. Innovation and technology are the keys to realizing this.
Soman from Cisco said in his session “If network is not happening, nothing is happening. So, connectivity is the key, with submarine network as the foundation.”
Paul added that the industry is a little bit late in investing cable systems, but network providers such as Telin and Telstra are now building out Trans-Pacific and Trans-Asia submarine cable. Therefore, partnering is important to support growth and leverage these fast-growing submarine cables are being built.
