Jakarta, 19 November 2015 – Telkom Group as one of the submarine cable consortium members of Southeast Asia - Middle East - Western Europe 5 (SEA - ME - WE 5) conducted an underwater cable installation at Cable Landing Station at Puak Dumai Beach on Thursday, November 19, 2015 which was witnessed by Director of Network and IT Telin, Tulus Sudarsono, and EVP Telkom Regional I, Teuku Muda Nanta.
SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable system stretches from Southeast Asia, Middle East to Europe with a cable length of about 20,000 km connecting 15 countries namely Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, UAE, Oman, Qatar , Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, and France. This submarine cable system has a capacity of 24 terabit per second using 100G technology. SEA-ME-WE5 underwater cable is planned to be ready for operation in November 2016.
Participation in the SEA-ME-WE 5 consortium will strengthen Telkom Group's position as a global operator that currently has participated in other consortia there are Batam Singapore Cable System (BSCS), Dumai Malaka Cable System (DMCS), Asia America Gateway (AAG), Singapore Japan Cable System (SJC), Southeast Asia-United States (SEA-US), Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS), and Indonesia Global Gateway (IGG) which will soon be built. So Telkom Group will have marine cable infrastructure connecting continent Europe, Asia, and USA.
