Why Telin Needs to Transform to Digital Company?

Jakarta, 5th November 2020 – As we enter industry 4.0, physical systems everywhere are starting to integrate with virtual and cyber processes, and maintaining connectivity has become vital for all industry sectors in this rapidly developing technological age. Addressing this phenomenon, Swiss German University, Multimedia Nusantara University, and Pelita Harapan University, conducted the second International Conference on Global Innovation and Trend in Economics (INCOGITE) themed “Global Business in New Normal era: Challenges & Opportunities in Pandemic Covid-19”. CEO Telin, Sukardi Silalahi, was chosen one of the keynote speakers alongside Minister of Research and Technology Indonesia, Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro. The event was held virtually on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

As a global-minded company, Telin’s transformation into a digital company had already begun before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. In his presentation, Sukardi spoke on the topic “Telin in managing business in the New Normal Towards Digital Transformation. “The Company has transformed into a digital company, meaning that Telin has become more efficient and productive, and offers better quality for the customer. The faster we transform to a digital company, the sooner the Company wins the global market,” Sukardi said as part of his presentation.

Sukardi explained that Telin’s approach to global expansion focused on Money, People, Traffic, and Network (MPTN). In addition, Telin has also implemented a combination of three approaches to do the business. First, to build, meaning to set up the business from the ground up. Second, to borrow, meaning to partnering and collaborate with other businesses. The last one is to buy, meaning buying a company to acquire its business. Of these, ‘build’ requires  strong and competent internal resources in order to be able to develop (build) internally.

At the end of the presentation, Sukardi explained that since the transformation in Telin happened before the pandemic occured, in particular for the digital retail services offered at its global offices, Telin succeeded in expanding its consumer base abroad. “Aside from Indonesians, we are targeting Filipinos,Thais and the locals [in each countries], which benefited the Company with doubled Net Income performance compared to last year,” he then added.
